Better Safe Than Pink

Good morning! You know Saturday morning good mood Kelly? It's up times 100 day because I'm at the Cape, it's beautiful outside and I have absolutely nothing I HAVE to do this weekend. No obligations what-so-ever beyond the usual grocery shop for the week and remember to work out at some point :)

So those of you who wanted to cry (and/or yell at me) when you found out I was sporting a helmet from my middle school days will be happy to know I have invested in a new, much-safer version of my old ridiculous helmet. Obviously I wanted more than anything to sport a beautiful pink helmet that would match my bike. But unfortunately the guy at the store managed to convince me that yellow and red (what an ugly combination!) would be much more visible and 100 percent safer.

It's hard to argue with safety when my serious fear of traffic keeps me on the bike trail 85% of the time. My goal of this year is to get more into biking on the road so I suppose a hideous safe helmet is in order. Though, do you really think red is more visible than pink? I don't know...I think bikers are just a little stuck up and don't want something girly like bike representing their sport. Boo, why did I let them suck me in?

Oh well, I have bigger biking problems this morning, like, what am I going to wear? (let's face it, I am not someone bikers want representing their sport anyway!) I completely forgot to pack bike shorts or even any kind of work out pants. The only pants I have here are jeans, leggings (I did consider wearing these but decided I would freeze because they are too thin- I'd also probably flash my underwear at everyone) and my pajama pants. Eric taught me how to roll up my pj pants in case I want to ride with those on...but they are striped and ridiculous and it's only going to be a last resort.

Especially because I am going clipless for the first time this morning and I am definitely anticipating some serious falls! In spin class I can never get my shoes to lock in with the pedals so I am hoping I am more successful on the road when it really matters!

Now I just have to wait 20 minutes for a sporting goods store to open so I can get something relatively appropriate to wear. I have to say, I love biking, but it is much more of a process than running, huh? I promise if I do have to resort to wearing pajama pants I will get a picture for all of your entertainment.

What is the most ridiculous thing you've worn while working out (biking, running, anything!)?

What is everyone up to today?
I am obviously going to bike and then provided I make it out without any serious injuries, I'll be hanging out with Eric all day and then meeting Katie and Adam for Japanese food tonight!

  1. I don't know that I've ever really worn anything super ridiculous to workout in. I wear spandex bottoms and I'm sure some people would consider that ridiculous.
No big plans today. Homework and watching The Hurt Locker later. Tomorrow we're having "Fun Day Sunday" which is all Patrick's idea. Should be interesting.
    Happy biking!

  2. I was going to get my hair colored today but it is SNOWING??????????????? WHAT HAPPENED TO MY SUN?????? And I don't like driving in snow and I have never had this stylist color my hair and I'm kind of scared. If it turns out crappy?? What to do?? I also wanted to go clothes shopping today and possibly get a new pair of flip flops.. But if it's yucky snowy all day I don't have any desire to get off my couch.. And my hubby is going to a bachelor party over night so I AM HOME ALONE.. :)

  4. Enjoy the bike ride. This clipless pedals definitely take getting used to! You do know that falling while clipping in or out is definitely part of the initiation into hardcoreness?! LOL

As for me, I hope to get over this darn head cold/allergies and get in a couple decent works as well as some spring cleaning. yikes!

  5. Good luck with the bike ride - I haven't rode a bike since I was probably 14. I would love to get one though.

We have grocery shopping on the agenda today - plus some cooking and homework. Bleck - I hate homework.

  7. I also wanted to tell you that I picked up the newest issue of Martha Stewart Weddings and this issue's theme is everything Pink! It made me think of you. When I'm done with it, I'd be willing to send it to you (it usually doesn't take me long to get through it!). Let me know. You can email me at swimzinapool@yahoo.com.

  10. Good job with the bike helmet. Boo for the man not letting you get pink. I guess red is more visible because "they say" police stop more red cars than any other cars. Weird factoid right there.

Anyway, jealous of your biking! I really want to start biking but first...I need a bike. ;)

  11. Good luck with the clipless pedals!

I've forgotten my gym socks before and had to wear trouser socks with shorts. That was a nice look. I've also forgotten my shoes and ellipticalled in my socks. (that was at my office gym where no one else was there. I don't think they'd let me do that in my real gym.)

  14. I have never gone biking - at least not since i was a child. i feel like I would fall over!!!

Physical therapy is going well. It's interesting to see what is causing the problem (my right glute isn't 'engaging' when I am running). So now that we've identified the problem, the PT has found great exercises to re-educate the muscle. i went for a run today for the first time & had no pain! My knee is a little sore tonight, but not bad!

  15. I've never been brave/hardcore enough to clip my feet in. I'm more of a leisure biker. ;) Not that I actually own a bike right now...

  16. I like the new helmet!! AND, gold and red were our high school colors, so no making fun!! haha, jk, they are sort of random, but I do think they are save, the man was right.

This weekend Nick and I have been working on bids on the house, and getting ready to move in a month. We did some cooking and then watched 2012. It was the lamest movie we have EVER seen!

  17. Adding my 2 cents:

I don't think red would be THAT much safer than pink. Pink and red are in the same color family. They could've made a more attractive helmet with yellow and a dark pink shade that would be just as noticeable. Sometimes athletic companies don't think about the fashion conscious! ;o)
