Just Need to Relax with a Good Book...

Today I was significantly less exhausted than yesterday, so I'm on the path to being a normal person again. Although...my throat hurts a bit so I hope I'm not getting a cold because that would put a major damper on weekend of weddings plan. Early to bed tonight!

My kids were in full discussion mode about my wedding again today and one of my little boys said, "you are marrying someone named Eric? I thought you were going to marry ME!" haha. I told him he was too young for me and he devised a whole plan to solve that problem. Apparently, he is going to cast a spell on me so I will not get older at my next birthday until he is 25 and then we will both be the same age. This same boy told me he wants to be doctor in order to make a lot of money, so I mean this could work out good for me. Did I mention he is an adorable kid with beautiful parents? Sorry Eric...I'm leaving you for a 5 year old! Besides, I have not been quiet about the fact that I'd love to freeze my age at 25 and this allows me to do that for 20 years! And then marry a rich doctor. Maybe I'll have to negotiate with him to see if this plan would allow me to stay 25 until he is a doctor, cuz frankly I don't want to deal with him in med school, that could be a lot of bills for me. This has been well thought out, believe me.

Anyway, let's talk books today. Part of being healthy is having relaxing hobbies I always read, but I have been on a major reading kick lately. Of course with the insanity that is my life right now, I have been reading the same book for the past 3 weeks, but hey, it's a long one. If you have not read American Wife by Curtis Sittenfeld, you should...right now. And while you are at it, hop on over to Emily's blog and join our Blogger Book Club. It's low pressure, all you do is read the book we read each month and then discuss it with us. I believe Lisa is doing a guest post this month on American Wife and I saw a picture of her book on her blog with lots of tabs in it, so I think we are in for a great post :) I usually only tab up books when I am reading them for work (and yes, I have insane collection on teaching reading, writing, math, and dealing with kids in general haha) but I had a friend in college who was an English major and he was totally highlighting his pleasure reading book in Aruba. I love book nerds. I wish I was a bit more of one to be honest. Me + the classics = not friends, me + most of what we had to read in high school = not friends. My two least favorite books of high school were Lord of the Flies and The Metamorphosis. I truly don't understand either of those books, maybe if you do you can enlighten me, neither of my English teachers could do it.

Anyway, I am almost done with American Wife and I need a new book asap. I was going to read The Year of Fog but I'm not sure I want to read about a missing child at the moment. Since Eric is in our Saturday night wedding and I'm not, I have to kill 90 minutes on Friday during the rehearsal, a little time before the ceremony on Saturday, and then a two hour gap in between the ceremony and reception by myself. If you happen to see a girl with brown curly hair sitting in a car reading with a dress on, that'll be me! So I need some recommendations.

What was the best book you have read lately? And, because reading in a car in a dress is NOT my favorite place to read, where is your favorite place to read? My favorite place to read is on the beach, or the dock at Lake Sunapee :)

  6. As a proud book nerd, I love how many healthy living blogs are discussing books lately. Totally checking out the blogger book club, too!

I just read The Red Tent by Anita Diamant and couldn't put it down--it's the fictional story of Dinah, who was Joseph's sister in the Old Testament (as in, the guy with the technicolor dreamcoat). My current read is Kitty Kelley's biography of Oprah--trashy but fun.

  8. Yeah Kelly, I wouldn't recommend The Year of the Fog in betweeen wedding minutes! Something light and funny! If you have't read The Help, I do recommend it and I am only half-way through it! American Wife was my favorite read of 2009. If I had time to re-read it, I so would. If you want to do a guest post on American Wife, you are more than welcome to as well. I always like lots of perspectives on things and the more interactive the better! Thanks for giving the book club a shout out! I am hoping for a good summer full of reading! Oh and as a English Minor, I've never read The Lord of the Flies and have no plans too!! ;)

  11. Right now I'm reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn which is incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I also recommend Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, East of Eden, and Julie and Julia (first for adventure, second for soap opera history, and third just for fun!)

  12. Omg that kid is hilarious. I love stories like that! :)

I loved American Wife. Boy did I tab the hell out of that book! :) It was such a great read, though. I flew through it. Now i am reading a travel memoir set in Paris and am not crazy about it, but it's ok.

My fave place to read is anywhere outdoors in the summer. Especially on the dock at my parents' cabin!

  13. I started reading the top 100 children's novels.I started with From the Mixed up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler and now I am on Charlotte's Web. There are several on the list I have already read, but I am trying to work my way through the rest since they are considered books every kid should read.

  14. Kids say the funniest things! Great story! I haven't read American Wife. I'll have to check it out. I need to read a real book. I have been reading chemistry during the day and then watching TV with the hubby at night. I do have a new Jodi Picoult book to start...

  15. I go to the library every two weeks! I think my favorite book of the moment is Feast of Love (which they made into a bad movie). Also, I need to bend your ear about Sedona, because John and I are heading up there in a few weeks!

  16. Have you read Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld? I liked that one almost as much as I liked American Wife. Right now I'm still working my way through Laura Bush's Spoken from the Heart and it's really good so far. On deck to be read next is Emily Giffin's new one and Men and Dogs by Katie Crouch.
My absolute favorite place to read is on the beach or by the pool. The season is coming up! I can't wait! :)

  17. How does one go about getting involved in this book club? It sounds awesome!

I always feel so awkward reading in the car, especially since my air doesn't work anymore so it just gets too hot! I think my favorite place to read is on my bed, but this usually leads to me falling asleep. ;)
