Why I Love Blogging

Today I woke up at 4 am for no reason. I could not fall back to sleep. This used to happen to me a lot back in my more stressed out days (haha, maybe they are in the past?) but it has been happening less this year and I'd like if it would go away forever. I am one of those people who has a much harder time staying asleep than falling asleep (though this does not apply when I am away on trips, or stay out late, then I have trouble calming down to get to bed). So...needless to say I am tired today. Therefore I thought a fun post was in order:

Top 10 Reasons I Love Blogging

1. All the amazing blogging friends I have made. Everyone is so supportive and gives such great advice. How else am I going to know people who live in England, Germany, Ohio and Canada? (and so many other places). Having friends in all these places gives me such a broader perspective. Plus it's so fun to receive comments from people!

2. It has made me a more open person in general. I've always been a lot better at expressing myself in writing. I was probably the only person in the world that loved middle school notes, even if they were about fights, and is not against e-mail as a form of confrontation. Talking about having IBS has been particularly difficult for me. For years I've been calling it "problems with my stomach" because I didn't want people to think I was running to the bathroom after every meal- I've now learned that people seem to get that IBS comes in many forms and really, who cares if people think I'm running to the bathroom? hang out with me for a bit and you'll notice I'm not haha.

3. It has expanded my food choices a lot. I get so many great ideas from looking at other blogs AND I have more motivation to try new things to post on my own blog.

4. It has expanded my exercise routine a lot as well. I know I would've had to get a little creative even without the blog because of my knee injury, but I feel more motivated to change it up so I can show others with injuries that running is not the only exercise out there.

5. Blogging alone gives me motivation to exercise more (didn't need any extra motivation to eat haha). Reading about others and all that they are doing to stay healthy is motivating. Plus I often track my fitness goals on my blog, and I want to be able to report something!

6. Blogging forces me to reflect on how healthy I am being- from my food choices, to my exercise routine, to how stressed I am. I often measure a bad (extremely stressful) week by how often I had time to blog that week...haha

7. I love that I have a place to keep track of what is going on in my life. I was always a journal person when I was younger but I never "have enough time" (or dedicate enough time) to writing in one anymore. They are so fun to look back on though!

8. Blogging and reading blogs is one of the best ways ever to procrastinate...and they aren't blocked from my work computer like facebook is!

9. I have learned so many amazing things from reading blogs. I have learned things about healthy eating, new exercises/videos to try, injuries etc AND the best part is, I can simply blog about something I want to know more about and BAM suddenly I will know more about it because everyone in this wonderful community will tell me about it.

10. It has forced me to take risks I would not have taken otherwise, from something as simple as trying more new restaurants, to something a little bigger like meeting friends in person I only "know" from online. I think blogging constantly challenges me to stay out of the monotony that life can be (get up, work, come home, go to bed, repeat). I try to do at least one thing every day "worth" blogging about (does not always happen, but it's a goal). I have also been known to think to myself, "I really don't want to do _____, but at least I can blog about it!"

I've heard before that people who blog are way too into themselves that they think people will want to read about their lives that much. I understand that opinion, but I don't expect anyone to want to read my blog. I hope they do, but there is no expectation. I also assume some days readers will not think what I write about is all that interesting. But that's okay, we can't all be interesting every day :) The fact is, I enjoy reading everyone else's blogs probably more than writing my own. I think it's COMPLETELY interesting to read about what someone else is eating, doing for exercise, and what is going on in their life in general. Call me nosy, but I think we all have something to learn from each other...and so that is why I have a blog :) (as embarrassed as I may be about it at times).

Why do you love blogging? If you don't have a blog yourself, why do you love reading blogs?

  2. I totally agree with you on every level! I love reading about everyone else and what's going on with everyone...I don't know why! My husband even asked me why I'm so interested in everybody else's life and I can't answer that, it's just fun!

  5. I don't have a blog but I LOVE reading them. For me, it gives me new ideas and motivation to work out!

  6. I'm with you an a few counts. 1) no problem falling asleep, but big problems staying asleep 2) blogging is more of my personal journal. appreciate others' input a lot, but that's not why I write.

  7. I Love Blogging because back in the day when I was in college I had a cheering section...Fans who would applaud when I did well. As a Wife, Mom and Career woman the applause is nearly silent. But in Bloggy land please are so positive and FUN!

We are all cheering for each other, there for the ups and the downs. It makes me smile to read about achievements of others and to post my own.

Pictures from around the globe and people of all shapes and sizes. Strangers bound together by a common bond.

I love to write I always have and I always will. I may not follow the proper grammar and I may never have a book published. But my Blog is my creative outlet and if one person reads it and finds one word, phrase, quote, picture, anecdote, insteresting and worth reading I have done my job. And if not, I have a pretty kick A-- journal to look back on.

WOW that was a Blog in itself. Sleep Well Kelly.. Maybe you just needed one of your little ice creams :)

  8. I totally agree with all that you said! Mostly on expanding your horizons on food and exercise. I've learned SO MUCH. I can't even begin to explain how much! And that's what I love about it the most :) Oh, and the people :)

  9. I love blogging because it's nice to know I'm not the only running geek in this world. I like to read about other people's lives, where they live, what they do, and of course their running adventures and experiences. Runners who blog understand each other, and support each other through good times and bad, through sickness and health...wait, that's my JP vows I'm reciting. :-) Anyhow, writing a blog is a nice diary of my past 13 months of running, and I've made some great blogging buddies along the way. When I started writing my blog, no one read it. Now I have 28 of the best "followers" in the world. For that I am thankful. You and everyone else motivate me to run, and I always look forward to swapping stories about running or anything else.

  10. I enjoyed reading this post!

I blog because it's FUN. It's a great creative outlet.

I love reading other people's blogs because of fun and easy recipes, new foods to try, interesting life experiences, and the photos!

  11. Fun post! I blog because my job doesn't really utilize my creative abilities. So blogging is a great release for me.

Also, I feel like blogging makes me more accountable for my fitness goals since I also blog about them, too.

  12. Oh how I love blogging, and for many of the same reasons you have! I love sharing my experiences with others, getting advice and motivation from other that are more experienced, and it makes me feel more accountable!

I also couldn't agree more with your #10 - taking more risks. I can honestly say that if I didn't get into running and blogging 3 years ago, I wouldn't have had any desire to go beyond my typical 3 mile run and train for a half marathon, let alone any triathlons. It's been a great experience, and I love sharing it with whomever wants to read about it!

  13. I like to blog (I do a photo a day) because it helps me to find something physical and hopefully beautiful (or amusing) each day. I like to read blogs because it is my guilty pleasure - like other people watch TV or play Wii I read how other people are doing - plus it motivates me to do more with myself!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I definitely love it for the people meeting part! It also provides me a creative outlet to write about what I love. And hopefully, my experiences will be helpful to people once in awhile!

  15. Working the hours I do (night) and being out of college I have found myself feeling isolated and blogging is a way to meet people, make friends and feel a part of something really special. It's nice having a whole community of people that have similar goals, values and food tastes ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. I first stumbled upon this amazing community of bloggers a few months after I'd moved across the province and hours away from all my family and friends. I think, that in a way, blogging and other bloggers became my support system. Not only was it a way for my family to keep updated on my new life, but it was also a way for me to be social.

I love blogging for so many more reasons, though; the people I've "met", the conversations that are had, finding more and more people that I can relate to. I honestly don't think I would be the person that I am today if it wasn't for blogging!

    ReplyDelete
  17. My #1 reason for blogging support and encouragement!!! When I'm having the worst of the worst days, even if I don't blog about it, I find so much inspiration from all the different blogs I read!

Great post today and loved all your reasons!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I love your blog, you really make me think with some of your posts. I love blogging for many reasons that you stated, comments and feedback are very encouraging and often informative... like you I used to journal but stopped and can never find the time but strangely when i am on the net anyway blogging usually doesnt seem like a hardship.

  19. I love blogging because it is a fun outlet for writing (like you said). I have always enjoyed writing, but when I know there is an audience (unlike with a journal or diary) I pay special attention to how I am wording/saying things and I think it is helping to improve my voice as a writer. I have always wanted to write a book at some point in my life, so I love the opportunity to write daily and express myself. Making bloggy friends has been great too! It is amazing to meet people and especially teachers from all over!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love blogging for a lot of the same reasons you do. I have gotten great ideas exercise-wise, for recipes, etc. And I love the comments too! And I know this might seem kind of crazy but I feel like blogs I read and people that read my blogs are my "blog friends" and that we kind of are friends in a way! It's really cool if you think about how many people you can connect with from all of the country (or world!).
