What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?

I have a tradition in my kindergarten classroom every year. 26 days from the last day of school, we count down using the alphabet. Each day is a new letter. Tomorrow is Letter C day and we celebrate- Career Day. All the kids have to dress up like what they want to be when they grow up. In the past I never dressed up, after all- I am already grown up (though I don't like to admit it). However, this year I'm motivated to pick something else to be- just for fun (or to fall back on when I really can't stand teaching anymore). At first I thought I'd be a retired person, maybe dress up like I was going to play golf :) Even though I really don't like golf, but no one has to know that. Then I started to think about what the ideal job would be. It's hard though because every job has it's ups and downs. For example I'd love to be a travel writer, get paid to travel around and tell people about it. But then again I'm kind of a homebody, would I really want to spend my whole life traveling? When I was younger I wanted to be a writer in general. I still think this would be an amazing job. But then again I like stability and a dependable paycheck, so maybe I should just stick to teaching. If only kids could be slightly less annoying...
I don't know what I will dress like tomorrow, perhaps just myself. If I come up with anything good I'll let you know.

I'm off to a good start with my Yoga Challenge. I did a 10 minute Yoga for Runners this morning after my 2 mile run on the treadmill. I will post my results from the challenge on Fridays and if you are doing it to, comment back and tell us how you are doing!

I was actually pretty happy with myself for getting through the 2 mile run. For some reason lately I've been having more trouble with my short runs. I think because I tell myself, "Kelly it's just two miles, no big deal" and then as I'm doing it, it's still hard! Where as, with the longer runs I get myself pumped up and tell myself this is going to be long. Weird I know but oh well, today I tried to get myself pumped for the two miles. I told myself it was going to be hard because it was going to be on the horribly boring treadmill (which is not much of a stretch) so I did it. My knee wasn't too bad after, and I'm going to the doctor tomorrow so I'll know more about the knee then. I had some extra time tonight so I tried to convince myself to go for a bike ride, but it didn't happen. I need a biking buddy, it's just too boring on my own. Hopefully I'll get some motivation to either bike or swim tomorrow. For some reason I just don't feel like I get as good of a work out when I do these two sports, even though they are both incredibly hard.

I am all over the place tonight (so much for being a writer) but I was craving pizza again after my creation last week. I used basically the same ingredients (tomato sauce, summer squash, zucchini, mushrooms and black beans), but this time I decided to use Panera Sour Dough bread instead of pizza crust, yum.
Delicious. Probably going to be lunch or dinner for the next few days :)

  1. hey! Good job with the yoga and running..
I did a 30 min beginner yoga class today :)

mmm..lets see...There are so many different things I wanna do (and have to decide pretty soon) I want to continue teaching dance...but I also want to go to school for something to do with health and wellness..we shall see!

  2. aww what a cute idea, I love it! Sometimes I wish I was going to be an elementary school teacher instead of high school so I could do cute stuff like that with students... then I remember teaching summer school for 3 years to grades 1 and 2 and change my mind again lol

  3. This reminded me of my pre-school days. Obviously I don't remember much, but apparently my preschool sent out a "quotes" newsletter to the parents with all the funny things that we preschoolers said. They also asked us questions, and recorded the answers. One of the questions was "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Most of the kids responded with the "ballerina," "fairy" or "fireman" classic answer, but I said "I want to cook dinner for my mom and dad." Haha! I don't even know why I said that, but my dad showed me that newsletter about a week ago. Too funny :)

Great job on the run, and I hope you get good news about your knee. Your dinner looks great!

  4. Cute idea for career day! At that age I think I wanted to be a teacher.
Sorry about your knee issues. I hope it gets better soon!
    Love your pizza!

  5. Aww, I have no idea what I would wear either! Probably just running clothes and say, "Look kids, even when you don't know what you want to be when you grow up, you can be a runner until you're 102."

or, "This is what happens when you don't have a real job!"

I can't believe I missed your post on your yoga challenge. I AM IN! I've had to miss my weekly Tuesday yoga session and have been meaning to do some on my own until I can go back. Plus it helps when you know other people are doing a challenge, too! Ok, 10 minutes a day it is.

  6. Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog! You just renewed my motivation to blog! I am having trouble getting started.
I should blog about my challenge -- I bought an unlimited pass to Bikram yoga, so I'm trying to go as many days as possible in the next month. (I took a 1.5 yr hiatus from yoga - tragic!) They have a 90 challenge at my studio, but I figured I would see if I can get a good week or two in before committing to that. I'm 2 days in and already feeling better. I'm about to check out your challenge!

  7. That is SO cute with your Kindergarten class!! I have taught swimming lessons for four years and I always thought the preschool class and Kindergartens were the CUTEST! Any older and they're just annoying!

I get like that with my short runs too, I just did a 3-mile run this morning and kept telling myself that it's ONLY 3-miles, but it ended up being really difficult! Probably because there were some serious hills involved too!

  8. What a lovely thing to do - getting the kids dressed up for career day!

I meant to let you know about the weather in Darwin in July - it's perfect. Hot, and dry (that is, no humidity). I think it's a lovely place for a honeymoon, only you can't really swim in the ocean here, which would make me avoid it for a honeymoon!

  9. i love your ideas for your class! i wish i knew what i wanted to be when i grow up. i still don't consider myself a grown up and you don't have to either :)

i did the yoga for runners today too! not nearly as flexible as polly but she is just so full of joy it's hard to not enjoy yoga-ing with her. thanks again for sharing the vids! lets hope we can both stick to a regular routine.

  10. I've let you down a bit :( This week I've done no yoga AT ALL!!!! I miss it terribly though, I really can't wait until tomorrow (Monday) when I'll go for Bikram yoga!

I know what you mean about the short runs! I also get pumped up after the first 2 miles and it's much easier after that for some reason :)
