Sunday Eats

Even though I have a bit of "food blogger" in me, I don't usually post what I eat every meal because frankly- I eat the same thing all the time. You would be incredibly bored reading the same thing every day! But every once in awhile I try some new items, so I am going to try to do a full day food post every once in awhile. Today is the lucky day! Keep in mind that because of my stomach I avoid too much insoluble fiber- which is actually great for most everyone else. So if you are wondering where my veggies are- I swear I am trying!
Breakfast: Kelly's Fabulous Everyday Oatmeal
1/2 cup of Quaker Old Fashioned Oats
1/4 cup of raspberries
1 cut up apple
lots of cinnamon :)

Snack: Pretzels

Lunch: 1/2 cup of Trader Joe's Greek Yogurt (plain)
1/4 cup of strawberries
1 pita
1 tablespoon of raw almond butter

Snack: Green Monster!
1/2 a frozen banana
1 cup frozen mango
1 cup soymilk
1/2 cup of spinach

Dinner: 1/2 cup of couscous
1/4 cup pinto beans
1/4 cup chopped tomatoes
1/4 cup chopped carrots
3 grilled scallops

Dessert:
My FREE birthday Coldstone Cake Batter Ice Cream with Butterfinger Mixed in. Join Coldstone's Birthday Club and you will get a free coupon for an ice cream when it is your birthday!

Overall my food today was yummy, particularly that yummy Coldstone ice cream. I was not a huge fan of my dinner. I'm not sure if I just don't like couscous (I haven't had it in years!) or if the tomato/couscous combo was not good. But needless to say, I think I will eat the rest of my scallops tomorrow with sweet potato french fries instead. Plus Eric made a ridiculously nice smelling tomato sauce tonight that I will have to enjoy sometime this week.

In training news I went swimming today. I did 30 laps or 750 yards. Not horrible but I have to get my butt to the pool more often so I can build up some endurance. I am starting to worry about the "open water" aspect of the triathlon- I really need my little "break" at the wall every 25 yards! I still have some biking questions, so if you bike at all please check out my biking questions from yesterday :) I also bought myself a knee brace today. The doctor and PT did not tell me to get it, but if my body is not holding my patella in the right spot, logically I think I should help it along! I am going to wear it for my first time on Tuesday for a bike ride so I'll let you know how it goes. Basically, my knee is still bothering me even after just biking so I am looking for a solution other than giving up biking. I REALLY don't want to have to give up running AND biking. Ah!

On a completely random note- Eric and I are planning a trip to Washington DC for the beginning of August. We are debating between two hotels- one is near the Capitol and one is near the Dupont Circle Metro Stop. Does anyone live or visit DC often? I think anywhere near the Metro would probably be okay...but would one of these be a lot better than the other?

  3. I love Coldstone's. It started in Phoenix years ago. We used to go to one of the very first ones. They used to have a fat-free cheesecake yogurt that I loved. I still love going there. I'm glad they have them all over now. Maggie Moo's is good too - similar concept.

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am not a pro at triathlons but I have been training quite a bit and have learned from all of my mistakes/injuries and others as well. I read this post and your post regarding cycling questions. I will answer, but feel free to do what you want with my answers/opinions?! okay?! LOL

    1. In regards to your bottom hurting after cycling... is the bike you are using personally fit for you? Soemtimes if the bike is not fit properly this will cause more pain then one things. If not, get it checked out. maybe your seat is too high or in the wrong position?!

    2. In regards to your neck hurting after riding.... try to remind yourself to keep your shoulders DOWN and BACK. Bring them down, and then try to remember to pull them back, as if you are pinching your shoulder blades. This should help. Also, try to keep most of your body weight over the seat as well. Sometimes one can put too much weight on their handbars which doesn't help, and may be the cause of your hand falling asleep.

Like I said, maybe the bike just needs to be adjust to meet your measurements. There are so many different measurements that could play into this.

Some more two cents... I see you bought the lovely "torture device". Do you use it often? I use my 3-4 days a week and it has made a tremendous difference. That, in addition to following the strengthening routine in the book TriPower ... love it. If you get a chance, check out my post about it that I copied below. I have made a lot of growth by encoporating it and it has made a world of a difference in my training. Encorporating strenthening and stretching routines is HUGE. HUGE!

I hope that wasn't too much for ya! Like I said, take it or leave it, I just thought I would share what I have learned!

  6. I would stay in the hotel closer to the Metro stop. That's what we do when we go. That way, you can hop on at any time and go where you need to go!

  7. I've visited DC at least 5 times and I'm pretty familiar with it. Hmm... I feel like the most fun stuff is around Dupont Circle area. You could honestly walk anywhere in the area up there. All the touristy stuff (museums, monuments) are only 2-4 stops away from dupont. I would go any farther east than the Capitol stop... its gets really sketchy/dangerous!! (whatever you do have fun, and stay OFF the green metro line going east from the capitol!!!!!!)

  12. hi there :) just stumbled upon your site. My bike seat alwayssss kills me. They have some pretty squishy seats at Target that I noticed the other day. Those would definitely help with the booty pain! Maybe to wake up your hands you could switch off every minute or so with one hand. hope this somewhat helps!! <3

  14. I lived in DC for 6 years and I STRONGLY recommend staying near Dupont, not in the Capitol Hill area. There are not many restaurants or much to do besides the Hill near Capitol Hill, plus it is a bit sketchier at night. Dupont is the area with more nightlife and lots of restaurants and bars, etc and more going on during the day. Dupont is also very central to everything else you'd want to see. Let me know if you have any DC questions - I'm happy to suggest places, restaurants, hotels, etc.

  15. Mmm-I'll have to try that oatmeal combination!

And quick question, I saw that you're reading Jodi Picoult's Change of Heart and was wondering if it's good. I just finished reading My sister's Keeper, Keeping Faith and Plain Truth and am wondering which of her books to pick up next!
