Everytime I Hear That Song, I Go Back

What is with me and having Kenny Chesney song titles...and blog names?

What can I say? I have a bit of a country music obsession. It will become clear later in this post if it wasn't already. By the way, I saw Kenny Chesney in concert when he opened for Tim McGraw in 2000...I liked his concerts a lot more back then, I can't handle the insanity now...mainly the seven hours of traffic to get to them, not exaggerating.

So anyway, I have a new favorite frozen product from Trader Joes. My friend from work introduced me to these- thanks Kathy!

As I said last night, I am generally an avid label reader, especially when it comes to frozen foods (obviously ice cream not included...oops). You get 7 potstickers for 230 calories, only 3.5 grams of fat and 13 grams of protein. Not terrible, especially considering these are perfect for a take out craving and only take a few minutes and one pan to cook. Okay fine you caught me, there is one nutrition downfall...640 mg of sodium, 27 percent of your daily value (which by the way...do you even want that much?). All I can say is I only eat 5 of these at a time rather than 7 and I make sure my sides contain little to no sodium.

DSC03781.JPG Mashed potato and carrots on the side. Yum.

I've mentioned before that I participate in a Blogger Book Club over on Emily's blog and this month we read Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who is looking for a pleasure read. Anyway, because the book spans over multiple decades many songs are mentioned as being important for the main characters in the book. Today I am going to take part in "Music of My Life" as part of our Blogger Book Club and list the soundtrack of my life. Here it goes...

The Childhood Years

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Cyndi Lauper ~ apparently this song was playing on the radio when I was coming home from the hospital :)

Cotton Eyed Joe, sung by a bunch of different people~ just reminds me of dancing with my cousins in New Hampshire

Sugar, Sugar, The Archies

The Sign, Ace of Base

Middle School

Wonderwall, Oasis

You Outta Know- Alanis

Wanna Be, Spice Girls~ Me, Tiff, and another friend of ours made up a crazy dance to this in 7th grade, I still remember some of it

Just the Two of Us, Will Smith

That's What Friends are For, Dionne Warwick

High School

Semi Charmed Life, Third Eyed Blind

Crash and Burn, Savage Garden

Ride Wit Me, Nelly~ I still remember the first time I heard this song and one of my guy friends was singing along with it and I was like "have you ever heard this song"? And he was like "no but it just keeps repeating hey, must be the money" haha, quality music

A Thousand Miles, Vanessa Carlton

College

Two Points for Honesty, Guster

Where Would You Be?, Martina McBride

I Go Back~ Kenny Chesney (and probably Keg in the Closet too haha)

The Waitress, The Waifs~ This is an Australian band that I loved while I was there

Here's a Love Song, Syd

Hips Don't Lie, Shakira

Post-College

A Feeling Like That, Gary Allan

Don't Blink, Kenny Chesney

Alright, Darius Rucker

I love music. I can't sing it, or play it, but I absolutely love it. My brother and sister make fun of me because I'm a major lyrics girl- I have to love the lyrics to love the song. That's why I'm having such a hard time picking instrumentals for my wedding ceremony :)

So, tell me what are some songs of your life? Could you name your favorite song of all time? (I don't think I could!)

And just because...

That's me and my grandfather, Pops...cute huh?

Tomorrow morning I think I'm going to go to my last normal yoga class before the Yoga Challenge begins. On Thursday I'll tell you all about why I am going to attend 31 hot power yoga classes in 31 days. Absolutely insane, I know.

(PS. Anyone know why I am having major SPACING issues with Ecto? lol)

  4. Oh my goodness! I remember most of those songs! Hehe...
I love music too (makes sense, I'm marrying a musician after all!). I can't pick one, but in general I love 90s pop rock (Dave Matthews, Third Eye Blind, Matchbox 20, Gin Blossoms, Blues Traveller, etc). I'll stop because I could go on and on...

  5. Obsessed with the soundtrack to your life!! I don't even know how I could narrow it down. there's way too many. My best friend senior year in college made my roommates and I 4 CD's when we graduated. Each CD represented the respective year. We had THAT many songs, each one evoking a memory. and that was just college...oh yea. Cute pic of you and pops :)

  6. I love the soundtrack idea too! I sometimes wish that we had soundtracks to our lives in the present time - wouldn't that be cool?

There are so many songs on your soundtrack that are on mine as well. Wonderwall by Oasis is a big one - it was always on in the car coming home from skiing on the weekends with my Dad and brother. And Ride Wit Me is so funny because my friend and I volunteered to tutor elementary school kids and she would BLAST that song on our way there. :)

  7. omg anything Ace of Base reminds me of childhood too! I saw the sign and it opened up eyes I saw the sign. For some reason, I remember Verve Pipe, The Freshman A LOT and of course my bsb and nysync :).

  8. OMG, two points for honestly totally reminds me of college. I haven't heard that song in a really long time. I used to really like Guster. They changed their sound though. Boo.

  9. When Stephen and I went to Trader Joes, they had those pots stickers out for tasting. Stephen and I liked them and seriously considered buying them. Until we looked at the ingredient list.

I totally loved Guster in high school and college. Actually, I still like them, but I don't listen as much anymore.

  10. It was fun to read about the songs that spark memories for you. I can't believe I forgot to include an Alanis Morisette song! That was huge in high school. I recently pulled out my old CDs, like that one, and listened to them on my drive home. Total trip down memory lane.

My Chia Seeds came yesterday! Can't wait to try them out!

  12. Funny enough, my post for tomorrow has a similar theme to this. There are definitely songs that resonate with me or remind me of a certain moment. Sugarland's "Something More" always reminds me of being at that concert (they were opening for Kenny, actually) with my best friend and really connecting with the song at that specific place in our lives.

  16. I need to think some more about the soundtrack of my life - what a fun topic!

Dave Matthews would definitely be a large part of high school and college and Hey Ya by outkast would summarize my grad school years...

  17. SUCH a cute picture!! I love your curly hair. You look like me :) That's not what I love it, but I Just love curly hair on little kids.

Your lists of songs are seriously so similar to what my favorite songs were at that time. Ace of Base, LOL, and that Guster song (well, all Guster songs really) and Oasis' Wonderwall, I LOVE that song!!

  18. The sodium in packaged foods KILLS me! Those sound decent, though. Smart to compensate with low-salt sides.

Ahhh, so many of those songs take me back!

I'll contribute one flash back song: MMM Bop. lol

  19. That picture is ADORABLE! I love your soundtrack. Wannabe would definitely be on there! I don't know how I could pick one out for myself. It would be really hard...but maybe I'll try. Fun post!

  21. Great list of songs! REminds me that you are a bit younger than me (guessing my middle sister's age)! And I love the picture of you and your Grandpa! Too cute!

  22. This is such a great idea! I would have never known that the title of this post was the title of a country music song. That's shameful considering my southern roots!

    ReplyDelete
  23. That is an adorable pic of you and your grandfather! I saw Kenny Chesney in 2001 before he was huge and it was awesome. It was a smallish venue and it wasn't even full!

  24. I enjoyed reading about the songs that spark memories for you - I have many songs that remind me about times in my life as well - and I couldn't name one favorite of all time, either!
