Chocolate Makes Everything Good

Kids.
If they don't make me crazy by age 30, I don't know what will.
Oh, and I don't even have kids. I just teach them. I get to say bye to them every afternoon and not deal with them until the next morning. How do parents DO it? Seriously.

But the great news is, I had no meeting this afternoon AND tutoring was cancelled so I had an awesome Monday instead of a totally insane one. I went to my lifting class early (there is a 5 o'clock one too, but I normally am not out early enough to go to it). It kicked my bum, but now I'm home and blogging and it's not even 7:30, yipee.

This afternoon while warming up at the gym I was reading Fitness Magazine. They are celebrating Valentine's Day with Send a Love Note To Your Body. All you have to do is Tweet #iheartmy and then whatever body part you are loving this Valentine's Day. I have to admit, I have never been one to jump on the "love your body" bandwagon. I am generally pretty nice to it, just not in a look at me I'm nice to it sort of way. However, body insecurity IS a huge problem for women, and it's a lot of fun to see what we appreciate about our body instead of what we dislike about it. A lot of women love their arms for letting them pick up their babies...aww :) (oh wait, sorry- I don't like kids, that's right!). So, what will your love note say, what is your favorite body part? What body part do you appreciate today? Follow me on Twitter to see what part of my body I am appreciating right now.

Speaking of body love, you know how you can really show your body you love it? Delicious and relatively healthy treats! I have been on a search for a dessert that has some protein for the nights I get home from lifting late. Enter:

Chocolate Peanut Butter Quinoa

1/4 cup cooked quinoa
1 tbsp. soy milk
1/2 tsp. peanut butter
approx. 8 chocolate chips

Mix quinoa and soy milk in a microwave safe bowl. Cook in the microwave for about 20 seconds. Mix in peanut butter and chocolate chips. Cook for another 20-30 seconds. Mix and enjoy :)

I know it seems a LITTLE random, but I promise you this dessert was delicious (really, what is not delicious with chocolate and peanut butter?). Also, it's only about 160 calories and has 2 grams of fiber and 5 grams of protein. Not too bad for dessert. Also, it doesn't LOOK that good so I tried to spruce it up with a fun ice cream bowl haha. But it didn't work...

Oh well, sometimes a dessert can't be everything!
Time to go finish watching this really depressing episode of House. I hope everyone has a good night!

  1. Sounds like you had a good Monday, despite the kiddos driving you crazy. That recipe is the most intriguing one I've seen in awhile. I think I'll have to try it out some day soon.

  3. I've never thought of making sweet quinoa -- great idea!

And I totally understand about the kids. There were days where I literally wanted to rip my hair out in frustration... but then there were those moments that melted my heart. Stay strong!

  4. Oh yum, I am willing to try anything with peanut butter & chocolate!!! Mmm!

My favorite body part are my calves. Random part to like but they are nice & toned from all the running I do!

  5. Hahaha I love your blog posts about the kiddies. Ya sure, parents have them 24/7 but they also don't deal with 15-20 of them ALL AT ONCE like you do!

My favourite body part is probably my stomach or my legs. My stomach is actually pretty flat and defined and my legs are quite toned because of running. I'm not a huge fan of my arms though.

  11. SOX AND SNEAKERS! SOX AND SNEAKERS! Haha, I love that name!

Anyway, I'd probably say my favorite part of my body are my legs. They're pretty athletic and fit and I like to look at them! ;)

  12. I just tried quinoa last weekend. I didn't know it was so versatile. I just might have to try your recipe very soon!

I have never been one to look negatively at my body. Sure there are things that could be better - but isn't that what life is all about? If we were all 'perfect' life would be so boring. I try not to focus on negative things. I am thankful that my body allows me to run.

  13. I work in a middle school and one of our new teachers, taught Kindergarten for 3 years before coming to us and the entire conversation was about how tough little kids are. Teenagers are brutal but I could never to Kindergarten- hats off to you!!!

  14. How do parents do it? They send them to us 5 days a week and then blame us for all the problems. :)
