Kelly Gets Positive About Weddings?

I apologize in advance if any of this post makes no sense at all. The tiredness of Sunday night's return home is hitting me now AND I just spent over an hour proofreading report cards...and I'm no where near done. I don't recall them taking this long before so either I just blocked it out of my mind, or maybe I just normally don't read them over at all. I have 15 parent conferences next week (and the rest the week after). I'll try to continue to post every day, but if I'm ever missing you'll know why. Right now I am feeling very unprepared.

Thanks for your comments on my strength training post yesterday. It's good to know that others (and maybe even Jillian Michaels) have struggled with this problem. I did want to say that I totally know I will not be able to see muscles if there is fat above it. This is definitely the case with those ab muscles I have been working so hard on :) However, I don't tend to store a lot of fat on my arms (at least at my current weight) so I don't think that's the problem on my arms. I am going to take all of your advice/comments into consideration and rework my cardio/strength training plan starting next week after my weight class is over. I'll post when I get that figured out. If anyone else has any advice, please let me know at any point.

Today I am going to answer one of my reader questions. Feel free to keep asking away!

What are you most excited about in planning your wedding?

It's no secret on this blog that wedding planning is NOT my thing. I like flowers but I'd rather not deal with them. I think invitations are a waste of time, money and paper and tat all wedding invitations should be evites. Dress shopping was okay, but I'm not a huge fan of white dresses or the pressure of finding, "the dress." However, there are a few small parts of wedding planning that I enjoyed or am looking forward to:

1. Asking my bridesmaids to be in my wedding. Sure, being a bridesmaid is expensive and at time a bit of a pain, but it's also an honor to be that important to someone that they want you to stand next to them at their wedding. I have so many amazing friends and I am so lucky for that. It's very hard to choose who to include on such an important day, so I stuck to people that I have been close with for a long time and I talk to very often. My sister is my Maid of Honor, and my best friend Katie is my Matron of Honor (you may remember I was Katie's Maid of Honor last August). I talk to both Caroline and Katie almost every day and consult them regarding all major and minor life decisions, so they both need to be there, and I mean RIGHT there, when I decide to get married. My other bridesmaids are my friends Ashley and Tiffany, and my two younger cousins Courtney and Shannon. Ashley was my roommate all 4 years of college and Tiff has been my close friend since 7th grade (a long time!), I couldn't imagine either one being anywhere but right next to my on my wedding day. My cousins Courtney and Shannon are almost 10 years younger than me. I have a LOT of cousins, but these two cousins were like my little sisters when we were younger. We always joked that they would be my flower girls in my wedding, though we clearly forgot to do the math and realized they would be 16 and 17 at the time of my wedding, oops. They did offer to still be flower girls, but I figured bridesmaids would work instead. I made each of my bridesmaids a photo book or collage to ask them to be my wedding and it was fun to re-live all the old pictures and memories.

2. Sharing wedding planning with so many friends. When I got engaged, I had four other close friends planning weddings at the same time- Katie, Tiff, Sarah and Timna. I also had two good friends at work planning weddings! It has been so nice to have so many people to talk to about planning (read: complain with). They have been so helpful in offering advice and just general support. It's fun to go through some of the same things with your friends at the same time.

3. Cake tasting. Let's be serious, this is very clearly the best part of wedding planning. Yup, I can't really eat cake but I am fully planning to enjoy a taste of cake at our cake tasting. My plan is to have no plans at all for the rest of the day after the cake tasting so if I feel sick, oh well, I'll be home in my bed :)

4. Making our website was fun, kind of like blogging :) I really enjoyed adding pictures of us and our families, and writing little blurbs about the people in our wedding. Even when I don't know the bride and groom I enjoy reading about how they know their wedding party. I just think it's fun.

Your turn:
If you are already married, what was your favorite part of wedding planning? If you are not married yet, what do you think will be the best part?

  1. I'm not married, but when I do get married someday I am looking forward to that exciting feeling of being engaged & being with the person you will be with for the rest of your life. The rest of the details like picking out the dress & flowers and asking my girls to be my bridesmaid will be fun, too. But mostly I am looking forward to that forever feeling. :)

  2. I wasn't crazy about wedding planning, so we decided to have a short engagement and to keep it small and simple. I loved picking the menu and arranging things like champagne and strawberries for our guests' arrival. Then I just looked forward to seeing everyone and having a good time!

  4. I loved the cake tasting. So good! At ours, the bakery made us a whole 6" round cake that we got to take home with us. The def. got our business!
I also really enjoyed getting my wedding band. But that's mostly because I like sparkly things. :-)

  5. Ugh. I am NOT looking forward to planning my wedding one day. Eric's sisters wedding stressed me out enough.

I want to have a REALLY cheap wedding and go on a huge extravagant honeymoon instead. Famous last words, right :P

  6. WAHOO KEllY gets positive! : )
I USED to be excited to plan my wedding but after watching you go through it first, not so much! This is the glory of being the younger sister, I watch you and then steer clear when you get into a mess (read: I'm eloping!) haha just kidding. That probs wouldn't fly well with the family.
I think the best part of wedding planning would bee......taking the pictures for the save the dates, etc. I'm pretty jealous of your professional pictures. Oh and possibly picking out the dress but I think it would only be fun for like two seconds and then stresseful haha.

  7. I'm so with you on this wedding planning thing. I think I enjoyed the big picture planning as in my vision for the day, but beyond that the planning wasn't that much fun. I will say that I love telling people about what we did for our wedding since it wasn't completely traditional.

  8. My favorite part was dress shopping with my mom. It was really special! She was my matron of honor, so we also went for a trial run of hair and makeup together. Again, really special!

  9. I don't really remember being too excited about wedding planning. It was okay, but difficult to plan from afar, so I didn't really get to enjoy it with my mom and friends. Cake tasting was definitely not the bliss that I anticipated bc the woman who owned her own small business basically said that I could only taste certain kinds that were in her 'sampler package' and she handed them to my mom and I in a bag when we arrived and we ate them in the car on the way home because she didn't really have a store front, just an office and kitchen. Don't ask me why I actually chose that person, but I did. We selected a kind of cake that we never even got to sample! Haha!

Getting the dress was fun, but I literally only went to one store and didn't have my mom with me, so that was not great.

I actually probably had the most fun making my own save the date cards and invitations to the rehearsal dinner. Shopping for the papers and materials and thinking of the design was fun!

  10. Oh heck yeah the cake tasting will be my FAVORITE part!! I also think asking my friends to be in my wedding will be a lot of fun, but at the same time it may be stressful (I don't know who to ask!! and I don't want to offend anyone....). But as far as the cake, Nick and I talk about this a lot actually. We want a cake with layers of chocolate, vanilla, and carrot!! haha, hopefully we can find someone to do that!

  11. I didn't love much about wedding planning but I had fun registering and when the day finally came, every ounce of work was sooo worth it and it was by far, the best day of my life! :)

  12. Some things I loved most about planning our wedding included meal and cake tastings (yummy!), assembling our guest favors (black & silver M&M's in little clear boxes, hubs and I are "M&M"), selecting music.

Some of the things I *didn't* love so much - printing envelopes for the invitations and doing the seating arrangement!

  13. I wasn't a huge fan of wedding planning as a whole. I think the only two things I actually enjoyed were designing the invitations and getting our engagement pictures taken! I didn't get to do any cake testing, I feel like I was cheated ...

  14. What a cool post!! :D

I think what I'm looking forward to is one day getting to add lots of little things to the wedding that will really be me (and my future husband lol). I've already started saving some pictures that I like for inspiration for when the day comes :P

  15. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I loved the cake tasting part. I did this in Maryland where we were getting married and I was going home to Vegas the next day and I actually was able to take samples back on the plane with me for Ryan to taste. I had a planned though because I was living so far away. It's fun planning a wedding.

  17. Even when you get frustrated and complain, it's still fun to be part of YOUR wedding planning. I love reading about it on your blog. It's such an exciting time. You're going to plan a great party to celebrate your marriage.

  18. I loved cake tasting, my hair and makeup trials, shopping for accessories, and all the girly stuff. Unfortunately it was really stressful trying to find a compromise and since most of my bridesmaids were either away or MIA, it was really hard coordinating them. Despite us both being in grad school and working, it was still all fabulous in the end. Get help, enjoy the moments, and enjoy your relationship! It only gets better because then you get to call fiance your husband and giggle each time (like me)!
