Max: Four Months!
Max turned 4 months on Saturday May 17th. Max is just filled with adorableness these days. It's hard to believe that I ever wanted to skip the baby phase and just have a 5 year old. It's also hard to believe that I have already packed up so many clothes that don't fit him anymore. We also returned Tiff's beloved Rock N Play last week because Max is too big for it, and she needs it back for her baby boy who will be born in a few weeks!
So, what can Max do these days?
He can look cute!
Ha ha. He is also "talking" a lot more. Think: goo, goo, ga, ga. We say he is telling us stories about his day. Occasionally he sounds a little angry during these stories, but mostly just happy. I guess sometimes people do things that really piss him off… probably his mean mummy :)
Max and I have been practicing taking photos of ourselves. It's pretty hilarious.
Luckily, we have Caroline to take actual photos of us.
He also has a little bit of troublemaker in him (not surprising). We found out the other day that he has been rolling over for my parents since May 8th and refused to show this new skill to Eric or I until yesterday! Stinker.
In general he is just interacting with us a lot more. He gives a lot of smiles, talking and just looking at everyone and everything. He is taking it all in.
Likes: sticking out his tongue, laughing at others sticking out their tongues, babbling, doing back bends, grabbing hair, putting everything in his mouth, car rides, music, kicking things
Dislikes: napping in his crib, napping in general, being tired due to refusing to nap
Feeding: Max's feeding has pretty much remained the same since 2-3 weeks old. He eats every 3 hours basically during the day. It still takes him a lifetime to eat, but now that I'm back at work I don't mind this because it gives me a great excuse to hang out on the couch for the vast majority of the night. I guess the only change is that he is getting more distracted while eating, particularly if something interesting is happening around him.
Sleeping: I can't complain at all about Max and sleep. He regularly sleeps through the night from about 9:30pm to 7am. In the last few weeks, he has had a handful of nights with early wake ups between 4-5am but those are still not the norm, fortunately. He still refuses all naps in the crib during the day and basically all naps at our house. He will nap in the car and out in public, so that's useful as long as you aren't trying to get anything at all accomplished at home.
My goal is to write posts 2x per month, since I'm recording all this info only here but I only did one the last month (see lack of nap time) so we shall see what happens. I hope everyone has a great long weekend!

Great Grandmothers
I have probably mentioned before that Max has FOUR wonderful grandparents who love him very much (and love to babysit, yay!). But what I did not mention is that Max has FOUR great grandmothers (and one great grandfather) who also love him very much. He is such a lucky guy.
The first is named Nana, one of the several "Nanas" in Max's life. She is my dad's mom. Nana has an incredible memory and always tells us great stories. When Max went to visit her and slept most of the time, she told us a story about when my dad was born. Apparently, after a few weeks, my grandfather said, "when is he going to DO something?" ha ha.
Max also visited another Nana, Eric's mom's mom. She lives in a nursing home and when we went to visit her, it was clear she had been eagerly awaiting our visit. Basically everyone who worked there was like "where's the baby?" "is this Max?!" She also had several pictures of Max up on her wall. Max was famous before he even arrived.
Eric's other grandmother, his dad's mom, goes by "Grammy." Grammy made Max a beautiful blue blanket that he loves. She also gave him a bottle on Easter, and he was very happy to take it from her. This may not seem like a big accomplishment but Max is very resistant to the bottle and will only take it from certain people in certain environments that he likes :)
Finally, the last great-grandmother that Max went to visit is my mom's mom. She lives in Connecticut, so Max got to experience his first trip out of the state! In Connecticut he got to meet Grandma, Grandpa and my aunt Paula :) Of all of Max's great-grandmothers, Grandma is the only one who has no other great-grandchildren. When we told her that she is a great grandma now, she said "Don't tell anyone!" ha ha.
Grandparents and great-grandparents are the best!

MAY!
First of all, thanks so much for all your notes about my return to work this week. Things are going well so far. But man, I forgot how SLOW weeks go when you are at work. Are we SURE it's not Friday?
But the month of April went fast. I enjoyed some beautiful weather (though it's hard to imagine at the moment, this week has been terrible!) and I read a few books: The Husbands Secret, Fear Nothing and A House in the Sky. I gave 4 stars to all 3 books. A House in the Sky is a memoir about being kidnapped and held in Somalia, so that was a tough book, but good. The other two were much lighter reads and hard to put down. ALSO, I met my 2014 Reading Challenge ha ha- so I guess I aimed too low. I think I will add to my goal a bit :)
Here is how I did with my April goals:
1. Organize and simplify. I guess. I put away Max's winter and newborn clothes and donated some of my own clothes. I still just feel like I have so far to go on this goal. But I suppose I did do all my individual goals within this, simplification will always be a work in progress for me.
2. Attend at least 4 yoga or pilates classes. I think I did 2 classes this month until I found out I had diastasis recti and I haven't done anything yoga or pilates since. I'm not totally clear on what I can and can't do so I just haven't even attempted yet.
3. Run 2 Miles. Yup, I can definitely run 2 miles in a row now :) AND I actually got on a bike… once, but still.
4. Try a new restaurant. I actually don't think I did this one… but I went to some old favorites.
5. Be in the photos. I did better with this, but I want to keep up with it. Basically I have Caroline to thank since she took lots of photos of us down the Cape. Have I mentioned how great it is to have a very talented photographer as a sister?
As for May, I don't have any specific goals in mind. I basically want to stay as calm as possible, fit in as many workouts as possible, and try my best not to throw a hissy fit in the pumping closet at work… ha. I would like to enjoy my more limited time with Max, and enjoy the end of the year with my great group of students. Oh, and try not to over schedule my weekends… which already might be a fail. I'd also like to wear summer clothes, but I suppose that one is out of my hands...
What was your favorite part of April? Being down the Cape was definitely mine :)
