My Body CAN...

You may have noticed I don't talk about body image a lot on this blog. It's not because I don't think it's important, but in my life I've been lucky to have pretty good image of my body. That's not to say I don't ever participate in fat talk, but in reality, I have never thought I was fat (unless I was... which is another story).

I think part of it is just how we are wired (as you can read about on Ashley's blog), but part of it is that I just mentally choose to focus on other things. Really, in the scheme of life does it matter if I will never (and I mean never) have a six pack? Will I be a bad teacher because I am not 10 pounds lighter? Or a bad wife or a bad friend? Nope. Those are my priorities and so I choose to think about things that will make me a better teacher, wife or friend like being healthy and active. I choose to focus on what my body CAN do, not what it can't.

So today, in honor of Caitlin's "Change the Way You See, Not the Way You Look" week, I will tell you what my body CAN do.

  3. This is a great post. Recently I realized that I actually see myself thinner than I probably am. I look in the mirror and think I look pretty good. Then I see a picture from that day and am like "holy cow! I looked like that?" Haha...how's that for self-esteem!

  9. Aww, what a great post! My body image is something I have always struggled with... I've been kinder to myself as I have gotten older, but I still have to mentally force myself to not focus on the negatives...

    My body can:
    - run
    - do cartwheels (which result in injuries, but still... At least I can do them!)
    - dance
    - cuddle my nephews!
    - LOVE

  12. I love this post because it makes you think of what you are capable of, not what you look like. So, to join in, here are five things by body can do:
    1. Perform CPR on a patient to save his life.
    2. Carry a baby. (Not yet, but hopefully soon!)
    3. Create beautiful jewelry.
    4. Nurse a sick pet back to health.
    5. Go hunting and hike through the woods.

Now that I'm in this mindset, I want to write more! Thank you for this way cool idea.
